Energy Efficient EcoReco M5 Adult Electric Scooter

EcoReco M5 Electric Scooter Review

The EcorReco is one of the more popular high-end adult electric scooter models out there at the moment, so we thought it was worth a closer look. So many people, both men and women are riding these electric scooters on the last mile of their commute these days. They are great vehicles to carry on the bus or the train and then scoot off to the office instead of walking.

There are even people that use them to get to meetings around town. Electric scooters are quicker than cars and Uber if you are travelling short distances within a city-center. No parking-space problems to worry about, no parking tickets and no parking charges. Get to that meeting nice and cool without creasing up your business suit!

The nice, compact looking design belies a powerful 36V Battery which is enough to propel the EcoReco M5 up reasonable inclines on your way to work. This compact electric scooter only weighs 34 Lbs and is so small and easy to carry when folded.

As the M5 model has front and rear suspension it can be a little heavy for some people so if you are small and a little on the weak side, this may not be for you. Otherwise the EcoReco M5 can be easily carried upstairs to the office or on a train.

The EcoReco M5 Scooter In Use

Unfolding this electric scooter is a snap. You lift up the lever by the front wheel and pop the handlebars open to unfold the scooter in about 5 seconds flat. The right hand side handlebar has a cool digital odometer mounted. It’s 250 Watt motor has a peak of 1 Horse Power and it good enough to climb a gentle incline without being at full throttle.

The handlebar is nice and tall with an extension, so someone well over 6 feet tall can ride it comfortably. the handlebar is wide enough to feel stable and the solid rubber tires are wide which also adds a little stability when riding.

It is worth noting that the newer model now has an option for air-filled tires which may suit some people who need a little more suspension and comfort if riding over uneven roads or pavements. The air-filled tires need to be inflated to between 60-80 psi.

This EcoReco M5 model has a few upgrades when compare to the older EcoReco M3 model. For example it has both from and rear suspension which provides a super-smooth ride. This electric scooter often needs a kick to get it going but once in motion the acceleration is pretty responsive.

The EcoReco’s frame can handle a load of around 400 Lbs which is pretty heavy for 1 person, but the company recommend around 280 Lbs weight for a rider to get the maximum performance out of the vehicle.

At around 230 Lbs the range is around 9 miles and the battery will last for a good 40 minutes at full throttle which should be more than enough time to get to where you’re going before you need to re-charge it.

The battery will last for around 2000 charge cycles.  If it’s charged for 3-4 times a week that would mean that the EcoReco battery should last for 10 years! In any case, the manual does provide instructions to change the battery if required. There is simply nothing like an eco-friendly electric scooter for our convenience!

This EcoReco electric scooter is clearly designed from the ground up as an adult electric scooter. Many other designs start with a kick scooter and then adapt that to electric power. Not so the EcoReco.

It has a top speed of around 25 miles per hour (depending on the conditions) and corners extremely well for having such small wheels. It is without doubt an adult-oriented design. Very sophisticated and not a toy. The left hand side handlebar has a brake lever which operates a drum brake in the rear wheel.

To Fold The EcoReco Electric Scooter

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Click and drop each handlebar down
  2. Click and drop the stem
  3. Pull the lever at the base and fold the scooter until it clicks

The hub-style motor is built into the rear wheel assembly and looks really compact while the battery is a Lithium-ion Phosphate (which is an advanced type of fast-charging battery) and is mounted in a long, flat box just under the deck.

Colours available are:

  1. Black
  2. Black & Red

EcoReco M5 Suspension & Brakes

The suspension is non-adjustable and is set to be pretty stiff. This just means that you have to be careful to avoid potholes and ruts in the street. However, due to the totally solid build of the frame it can withstand pretty much anything.

This is a tough little electric scooter!

The brakes are fully adjustable, which is a nice feature because everyone has their own preference when it comes to how the brakes should respond.

It seems like the brakes come a little light out of the box so you might want to adjust them to be a little harder braking. There are full instructions on how to adjust the brakes yourself in the manual and all that’s needed is a little patience.

Quality Control

There are a couple of reviews that mention that the quality control is perhaps not quite 100%. This is worth mentioning for safety. Once you get the EcoReco M5 out of the box it is worth checking that all the nuts are tight. Especially apparently, the front wheel nuts can be a little loose.

There are  a couple of reports of the wheels coming off while in-use, so please do check these front nuts!
